I cant help it. Every year at this time I get an overwhelming feeling of excitement. It usually consumes my mind nonstop. It consumes my every Saturday for a few months. Since I was very young I have attended dozens Spartan Football games in East Lansing. As far back as I can remember (1994) I have been to at least 1 game a year...until last year, when Army training got in the way of the Spartans' schedules
This Friday, under the lights at Spartan Stadium, Michigan State will open up against Boise State in a week 1 match up of top 25 teams with much to prove. Sadly, it will open the 2nd season in a row that I will be unable to attend a game due to needs of the Uncle Same.
As much as I would love to fly back to East Lansing to catch the game, my efforts here are more important. I will make every attempt possible to catch the game at 4:30am Afghanistan time thanks to AFN Sports, and will certainly watch the replay if I am unable to catch it live.
I'll be damned if this streak of missing Spartan football makes it to a 3rd season. I'll be at the opening game in 2013 regardless of what Uncle Sam has planned.
Thoughts on the 2012 Season:
Max Bullough and LeVeon Bell will be vital to the Spartan efforts. I'm not overlooking Big Will on the D-line, but I think he is a sure bet, while Bullough and Bell must be consistent for this team to reach it's potential on both sides of the ball. Chris Norman will be the X-Factor on the defensive side, and I think Andrew Maxwell will have very few problems settling in under center.
In the end I see a 10-2 season with the potential of a New Years Day trip to sunny, Southern California...however, that will likely require a little help.
Go Green!
Until next time...
Chris
