Tomorrow my platoon will operate our first mission in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. I cannot share the details about where we will be, or what we are doing...but I can say that we are very well prepared. We've spent the last several days servicing our vehicles, practicing our tactics, and studying our notes on the task at hand.
Anxiety is very high, but I am confident that we will do a great job. B. Co 1/23 Infantry has been very successful so far in our efforts in the Kandahar area. We're getting business done, and even finding some time to have some fun.
Yesterday we played a little basketball at a makeshift court built out of helicopter landing pad materials. It's pretty cool how we can make the most out of anything, trying to create a holiday atmosphere in the middle of a war zone. In addition, mail has started to pour in and I'm looking forward to getting some love from home.
Q/A #2:
Q: Can you please list some things that Mom's like me can send to you guys over there to make life more bearable?
A: Of course we always appreciate the mom type gifts--toothpaste, shampoo, etc...However the best thing to send us is the stuff that reminds us of home. A hat from a favorite team, photographs, and reading materials can help pass the down time. One of the coolest thing's I've seen so far was a locket of hair from a fellow soldier son's first haircut. Anything is much appreciated.
Until next time...
Chris
