I had intended to let this blog die out. Despite much support from readers to continue writing about my experiences in Afghanistan and back home, I had made the decision to put it behind me. The truth is that it took quite a bit of time to put together my thoughts. I am not good with words and sometimes my thoughts are incoherent so I was planning to move on.
However given recent events in the country, I have decided to to start writing again. It will follow my general thoughts about life in America--where we've been, and where we're headed. It will also be thoughts of a personal non-political nature.
First a word about being back home...It is a wonderful feeling to be back! I arrived at Joint Base Lewis-McChord in the late evening of November 19th. I was greeted by my wife Julie and the family and friends of 200 other soldiers. It was very moving.
Julie and I spent the Thanksgiving weekend together enjoying our time together. We have so much to be thankful for this holiday season and the time together will be a much welcomed relief from the busy military life I have working for the last 9 months. We will be in Michigan and our other home in Washington, DC before I return to JBLM in January.
My thoughts this holiday season are with the soldiers from 1-23 in Texas and California who are recovering from their wounds overseas. I look forward to visiting them in the coming months.
Until next time...
Chris
