The networks created in my profession often bring me into contact with a wide range of people from all over the country, and even from around the globe. Our discourses often range from military to political matters--two subjects whose lines are often blurred when the matters involve deployments to war zones.
However this week, it was the writings of an old friend of my family that got my overactive brain working overtime, again...
His professional title salutes him as "Honorable." However, in the 20+ years that I've known him, former judge Thomas E. Brennan, Sr. has been more than that title implies. He is the father to my uncle, and grandfather to my cousins. The character of those men, is a direct reflection of the patriarch, Tom Sr.
As our families have intermingled often at family events, his wisdom and quick wit were always intertwined. I recall at a graduation party a few years ago, a discussion about golf turned into a political debate, then moved on somehow seamlessly to a reality tv show. No subject was ever off limits, and the conversation was always exciting.
So when a link to his blog was sent to my email, I was shocked to see my name in the first line of a post. I guess, as it turns out we are fans of each-others' writings. His post detailed thought provoking questions about what the legacy of the soldiers in this war will become. For so many of us soldiers our legacy will be that to which the public assigns the war itself.
This and many other great writings of interest can be found on his blog. I encourage you to take a look!

Until next time...
