My email is loaded with questions from various people...I figured I would take a few minutes and answer a few of them here:
Q: What is the food like over there?
A: The food the army serves us is great, considering our remote location. We receive hot breakfast and dinner. It ranges anywhere from hot dogs and burgers to shrimp or chicken. We have two full time chefs here who take care of us. If you get on their good side they will prepare a menu that you request. We also have an unlimited supply of ice cream, bottled water, gatorade, and other assorted drinks to keep us cool.
While we are out on missions we eat "MRE's" which is the short name for Meal Ready to Eat. It's a full meal in a bag, of which there are more than 20 varieties.
Q: Do you have any free time?
A: More than you might think. During my down time I watch movies or tv shows that I downloaded before coming to Afghanistan. I also take that time to make improvements to my equipment and do ordinary chores such as cleaning and laundry. We have also been provided with a comfortable lounge that includes computers, telephones, TV, and a book/board game library. So far I have been able to see a couple Detroit Tigers games, and two of the Red Wings playoff games. We work extremely hard here, so when we have time to relax we try to make the most of it.
Until next time...
Chris
