Since I arrived at Ft. Lewis, Washington last July there have been rumors about a deployment to Afghanistan. The experiences of basic training, 30 days of full spectrum war training at the National Training Center in California, and 7 months of training with my new Army family here have me as prepared as I will ever be for the test that is forthcoming.
There are many differing opinions on the war in Afghanistan. As a soldier, I signed up prepared to face whatever threat faces our country both foreign and domestic. It is my job to always be prepared to go where I am needed, regardless of the politics behind my being there. Whether I believe we should be in Afghanistan or not is irrelevant. I support the cause of freedom, and I support my Brothers in Arms, wherever they may be. I will go and fight any war in any location where I am sent, given that the cause is just. I believe that our cause for being there is just, and therefore will represent my country to the best of my abilities.
For security reasons I cannot tell you exactly where I am going. However I will be in southern Afghanistan near the city of Kandahar. I will post pictures as I can for you to see just what this area is like. This time of year the weather is in the 70's and low 80's with occasional light rain. It will take a few days for us to get into Afghanistan. We will make several stops on our way into the country for some final training classes.
I would be happy to respond to any questions or feedback you have. I hope this blog will give you some insight into life in Afghanistan.
